Tips
for making your wedding photography the best it can be
Believe it or not, it’s not all
up to your photographer to give you what you want. A lot of the experience and results are up to you. Here are a few tips
to make your day better. First, do your homework before your big day. If you know of locations nearby, let the photographer
know in advance. You may also want to consult your photographer before the wedding on ideas he/she may have for beautiful
locations. Second, if you’re tired or just want to take a break, let the photographer know. You don’t need to
push yourself and your expressions and posture will be better if you’re relaxed. Third, if you have ideas for photographs
you’ve seen or thought of, let your photographer know. I always appreciate ideas and am willing to fulfill your requests.
Fourth, your personality will show through in photos if you are comfortable with certain poses and locations. If you love
something, suggest to your photographer that it’s part of your love, passion or personality and try to incorporate that
in your photos. I’ve had couples who liked barns. So, we went to a location and shot a barn in the background. These
are the types of photos you’ll cherish the rest of your life. It can be a location, an object or just a certain pose
you like.
Tips
for making your portrait session turn out wonderful
First, think long and hard about what
you want to wear. Pastels are the best for portrait photography. If more than 1 person will be in the photograph, be sure
to coordinate what you are all going to wear. If it’s a family portrait, the best method is to have everyone wearing
the same things, like jeans, T-shirts, everyone in the same type of outfit. Second, location, location, location! I love to
shoot portraits on location, whether it’s at your home, in public gardens, at a park, etc. Pick a location that has
some meaning to you. It could be a specific memory, something you like to do or a place that fits your mood. Third, be sure
to be well rested and eat a good meal before the shoot. If you’re feeling good, it will definitely show through in the
photos. Also, don’t rush yourself. Be sure to be prepared well in advance so you’re not rushed to get to the location
and be on your way. This is especially true for families. Be sure to get the kids ready extra early so you don’t have
to push them out the door. If you have young children, bring along something of theirs that keeps them calm or happy. This
will help them during the shoot and will also help the photographer have something to talk to them about to ease their worries.
